Why You've Got The '1%' All Wrong

When we think of being rich, we think of driving fancy cars and living in super-modern OCD-white mansions on a cliff somewhere in LA. But the reality is quite different. In some of the most comprehensive studies taken on millionaires by Thomas J. Stanley, author of The Millionaire Next Door and Millionaire Mind, he discovered some surprising 'secrets'. Most of us associate the rich with material items because they're the type of wealthy people who make the news: - Reality stars - Athletes - Actors But the majority of rich people are different. They: - Live in blue-collar neighbourhoods - Drive domestically produced cars at least 3 years old - Rarely buy designer clothes or items It might seem surprising, but that's because no one would ever make a TV show on a real rich persons life - because it would be so boring! You might think 'well surely once they're rich they may as well splash out as bit'. But that's where the contradiction lies. After years of rewiring their 'wealth' brain to:

  • buy assets not liabilities

  • live below their means to invest in themselves

  • think like a producer instead of a consumer

...they simply do not care about material things anymore. Now I want you to imagine something. Imagine you were financially free. You lived solely off of passive income. You had all the time in the world. BUT you weren't allowed to upgrade your car or house. Would you still care about being free? If the answer is no, then you either need to re-evaluate why you want to be rich. It should be about freedom. And taking care of your family. All the fancy cars, big mansions and designer watches should just be a bonus. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy them. It just means they shouldn't be a goal. And you definitely shouldn't need them.
